And so it begins …

This is Rhoda’s (my heirloom Giant Tree Peony) first bud to open this year. She always opens right around or on Memorial Day weekend. Yesterday afternoon I found only this one bud beginning to show a little pink.

This morning, early, I found that one bud had already blossomed open to this stage. The petals remind me of soft protective layers of baby blankets sheltering precious cargo within.

There were four blossoms total open this much first thing this morning. I know for the next two or three days each time I venture outside there will be more opened, and they will bloom large and rich, big and fast then fade so quickly I will hardly be able to catch them with my lens.
Too beautiful for mere words, this lovely flowering shrub.

Indeed they are beautiful blooms. I just notice bud on my little Peony bushes also. I’ll have watch them closely. Thank you for the heads up. Kiss Sweet Pea for me.
